Verbal Piñata

Bare with me as I beat my noggin with a piñata stick in hopes that some inspirational words fall out. Don't get me wrong, I am not referring to inspiration for you the reader, some pithy antidotes or positive affirmations, I'm talking about a mental purge, shaking the excess ramblings off so I can get to the good stuff. I started writing about a year and a half ago. I didn't start with journaling, poetry, or blogging. Nope! I jumped feet first into a complex novel idea, happily flailing around in the deep waters that I put myself into. In this time I have discovered that there are just about as many different writing styles and approaches as there are painting, each with a different purpose and technique. Some are intricate and thought provoking, some bold and straight forward, and everything in-between. The love of one does not dismiss the power and necessity of the other. When stuck in one approach, I jump to another, not only to keep the words flowing, but to expand my creativity. Instead of "Writers Block" I think "Time to hit the piñata!", write a poem, write a letter, write a speech, start a blog. This page is that space for me, a place to stretch my verbal mind. I may ramble, I may experiment, who knows. Apologies in advance for the verbal chaos that shall ensue.
"the power and necessity" of using different writing styles. I like that. I don't write poetry, I don't even GET poetry, but I wrote a poem once and it unstuck me. go figure. Also, I love your pinata metaphor. Reminds me of throwing things against the wall to see what sticks. Ramble on.
