Dry Earth and Roses

A cool breeze sweeps through the forest, cooling my skin still sticky with sweat as I rock back and forth in my hammock. The sun is behind the tree line now, but rays of sun spill through the intricate net of maple leaves onto the forest floor creating fleeting pockets of inviting spaces, soon to be draped with the calming evening shade, that will dissipate it's magical draw. The power of light plays tricks with not just my eyes, but my soul. The summer warmth of abundant sunshine fills my heart with an endless source of childlike joy and energy. I find myself tense at the thought of its dwindling support as summer turns to fall. I close my eyes and inhale the August scents, plants of the dry earth beneath me and roses from the front yard. I remind myself that nature eases into seasons as day eases into the night. That every year my heart welcomes the retreat into the coziness of the fall, just as my body now craves the evening calm after a long day in the summer sun.

  1. The "dwindling support" of a comforting season. I get that and often wish to just push the pause button until I'm ready. The best some of us can do is enjoy the moment then START DECORATING for the next one!!!

  2. Also, love that picture. Is that your view point from your hammock?
